Remove g_type_init() calls
...
Very many testcases, some GLib tools (resource compiler, etc) and
GApplication were calling g_type_init().
Remove those uses, as they are no longer required.

volume monitor: don't unref NULL
...
Fix a couple more cases of blindly calling g_object_unref() on the
result of a function that is documented as sometimes returning NULL.
