Main reason to update is the addition/enhancement of H5Pset_libver_bounds(): "Added an enumerated value to H5F_libver_t for H5Pset_libver_bounds()." - https://support.hdfgroup.org/ftp/HDF5/releases/hdf5-1.10/hdf5-1.10.2/src/hdf5-1.10.2-RELEASE.txt This allows to write backwards compatible files with newer hdf5 versions, although this is "opt-in" by the library users.
