According to https://github.com/linsomniac/python-memcached/issues/177#issuecomment-744345125 python-python-memcached is dead and it should be replaced by pymemcache

Is it true? Should we do it?

Checklist: Concerned packages

@dgarcia https://github.com/cherrypy/cherrypy/pull/1984 could use some rebasing love.

Not sure about this issue anymore, looks like the python-memcached project has some recent activity (last commit from Sep 22, 2025):

And latest pymemcache release is from 2022, so not sure about which one is in a better upstream shape.
