- update to 2.1.0:
  * Drop python 3.7 support.
  * Test against python 3.12.
  * Use `pyproject.toml` rather than `setup.py`.
  * Switch from `setuptools` to `hatchling`.
  * Switch to `main` branch.
  * Use `tox` and `pre-commit` to ease project maintenance.
