To avoid loading backup files of various tools and editors, modprobe skips files under /etc/modprobe.d/ that have the following prefixes "." "~" and the following suffixes ".rpmsave" ".rpmorig" ".rpmnew" ".bak" ".YaST2save" ".-" "~"
