tests: Improve signed int handling to silence scan-build warnings

This should silence the following warning:
```
../../../glib/tests/mutex.c:206:5: warning: 1st function call argument is an uninitialized value
    g_thread_join (threads[i]);
    ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
```
