Most D-Bus interfaces are domain-specific, but these interfaces from the
D-Bus Specification are intended to be commonly used in any context for
which they are found to be appropriate.
Most of these use `gdbusprivate.h`. One exception is that
`gio/tests/gdbus-example-*` redefine the constants locally: due to these
files' dual role as part of the unit tests and as sample code, it seems
desirable to ensure that they can still be compiled outside GLib.

Before checking the properties of `*_proxy`, assert that there were no
errors in constructing the proxy first. Otherwise the property checks
will crash on `NULL` pointer dereferences.
The test is still intermittently buggy somewhere, but at least this
commit will cause a relevant error message to be printed on failure.

This is a spiritual follow-up to commit 8cff531520, which
added `G_TEST_OPTION_ISOLATE_DIRS` to the `gdbus-connection-flush` test
to avoid its D-Bus cookie lock file from being erroneously deleted by
other tests running in parallel.
The same failure mode could affect any of the other D-Bus tests which
connect to a bus. As an easy fix, enable `G_TEST_OPTION_ISOLATE_DIRS`
for all of them.
The only test it’s not (yet) enabled for is `gdbus-address-get-session`
as that messes around with `XDG_RUNTIME_DIR` to test finding the session
bus. It might be possible to use `G_TEST_OPTION_ISOLATE_DIRS` with it,
but that would take longer than I have right now.
In any case, the more tests (which try to connect to a bus) that this is
enabled for, the lower the chances of spurious test failure due to them
conflicting over shared resources.

When destroying `GDBusProxy`s in a custom `GMainContext`, the context
must be iterated enough after finalisation of the proxies that any
pending D-Bus traffic, and the signal subscription data, can be freed.

The `ay` property has type `string` (see the generated code) since it’s
not been annotated to force accepting a `GVariant`.
This means the GObject property machinery expects a string, and calls
`g_strdup()` on the passed-in pointer, rather than sinking the
`GVariant`.

Various tests have leaks where it isn't clear whether the data is
intentionally not freed, or leaked due to a bug. If we mark these
tests as TODO, we can skip them under AddressSanitizer and get the
rest to pass, giving us a baseline from which to avoid regressions.

This was mostly machine generated with the following command:
```
using the latest git version of `codespell` as per [these
Then I manually checked each change using `git add -p`, made a few
manual fixups and dropped a load of incorrect changes.
Helps: #1993
Currently the code generated by gdbus-codegen uses
G_DBUS_CALL_FLAGS_NONE in its D-Bus calls, which occur for each method
defined by the input XML, and for proxy_set_property functions. This
means that if the daemon which implements the methods checks for
G_DBUS_FLAGS_ALLOW_INTERACTIVE_AUTHORIZATION and only does interactive
authorization if that flag is present, users of the generated code have
no way to cause the daemon to use interactive authorization (e.g. polkit
dialogs).
If we simply changed the generated code to always use
G_DBUS_FLAGS_ALLOW_INTERACTIVE_AUTHORIZATION, its users would have no
way to disallow interactive authorization (except for manually calling
the D-Bus method themselves).
So instead, this commit adds a GDBusCallFlags argument to method call
functions. Since this is an API break which will require changes in
projects using gdbus-codegen code, the change is conditional on the
command line argument --glib-min-version having the value 2.64 or
higher.
The impetus for this change is that I'm changing accountsservice to
properly respect G_DBUS_FLAGS_ALLOW_INTERACTIVE_AUTHORIZATION, and
libaccountsservice uses generated code for D-Bus method calls. So
these changes will allow libaccountsservice to continue allowing
interactive authorization, and avoid breaking any users of it which
expect that. See
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/accountsservice/accountsservice/merge_requests/46
It might make sense to also let GDBusCallFlags be specified for property
set operations, but that is not needed in the case of accountsservice,
and would require significant work and breaking API in multiple places.
Similarly, the generated code currently hard codes -1 as the timeout
value when calling g_dbus_proxy_call*(). Add a timeout_msec argument so
the user of the generated code can specify the timeout as well.
Also, test this new API. In gio/tests/codegen.py we test that the new
arguments are generated if and only of --glib-min-version is used with a
value greater than or equal to 2.64, and in gio/tests/meson.build we
test that the generated code with the new API can be linked against.
The test_unix_fd_list() test also needed modification to continue
working now that we're using gdbus-test-codegen.c with code generated
with --glib-min-version=2.64 in one test.
Finally, update the docs for gdbus-codegen to explain the effect of
using --glib-min-version 2.64, both from this commit and from
"gdbus-codegen: Emit GUnixFDLists if an arg has type `h` w/
min-version".
This reverts commit 4aba03562b, preserving
the new tests but adjusting them to assert that the old behaviour is
restored.
As expected, there were a few projects which broke because of this.
Unfortunately, in one case the breakage crosses a project boundary:
sysprof ships D-Bus introspection XML, which is consumed by mutter and
passed through gdbus-codegen.
Since sysprof cannot add this annotation without breaking its existing
users, a warning is also not appropriate.
Previously, if a method was not annotated with org.gtk.GDBus.C.UnixFD
then the generated code would never contain GUnixFDList parameters, even
if the method has 'h' (file descriptor) parameters. However, in this
case, the generated code is essentially useless: the method cannot be
called or handled except in degenerate cases where the file descriptors
are missing or ignored.
Check the argument types for 'h', and if present, generate code as if
org.gtk.GDBus.C.UnixFD annotation were specified.
This change will break any existing code which refers to the (useless)
wrappers for such methods. The workaround for such code is to add the
org.gtk.GDBus.C.UnixFD annotation, which will cause the same generated
code to be emitted before and after this change.
If this is found to cause widespread problems, we can explore a
different approach (perhaps emitting a warning from the code generator,
or annotating the symbols as deprecated).
Back in the far-off twentieth century, it was normal on unix
workstations for U+0060 GRAVE ACCENT to be drawn as "‛" and for U+0027
APOSTROPHE to be drawn as "’". This led to the convention of using
them as poor-man's ‛smart quotes’ in ASCII-only text.
However, "'" is now universally drawn as a vertical line, and "`" at a
45-degree angle, making them an `odd couple' when used together.
Unfortunately, there are lots of very old strings in glib, and also
lots of new strings in which people have kept up the old tradition,
perhaps entirely unaware that it used to not look stupid.
Fix this by just using 'dumb quotes' everywhere.
Very many testcases, some GLib tools (resource compiler, etc) and
GApplication were calling g_type_init().
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=686161
For a D-Bus property with name "Type" (fairly common), we used to
generate a GObject property with name "type-" and C accessors
get_type_() (to avoid clashing with the GType getter), set_type_()
(for symmetri).
However, the rules for GObject property names are fairly rigid and
specifically prohibit names ending in a dash.
Therefore change things so the chosen GObject property name is "type"
but preserve the naming rules for the C getter and setter (for the
same reasons: avoiding name clashing and symmetri).
This change does break the API of generated code (but only on the
GObject property level, the C symbols are not changed) but strictly
speaking the behavior was undefined since "type-" was an invalid
GObject property name.
Also add a test case for this.
